This learning program certifies agency trainers to facilitate creating LGBTQAI+ (Lesbian,Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Asexual, Intersex, and many more) Affirming Responses and Environments for foster parents. It provides information and resources that are in alignment with the ACS Affirming Home Pledge and supportive of youth’s rights to sexual and reproductive health information and care.

Direct service staff, supervisors and managers working in ChildWelfare and Foster Care services
Course Benefits
Learners will:
- Develop the ability to educate participants on fostering LBGTQAI+ affirming environment and responses for all youth in our care.
- Be able to support caregivers in identifying resources they can rely on to meet the responsibilities of creating LGBTQAI+ affirming environments and responses in their role.
- Be able to teach caregivers affirming communication strategies, including words and behaviors to avoid that are not affirming.
- Understand how to support caregivers in connecting youth to affirming resources and referrals.
Course Prerequisites
Prior to attending this course, learners are required to have completed all components of the course, LGBTQAI+ Foundational: Include, Empower and Affirm.
Course Components
Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete:
- A two-day, virtual, instructor-led training.
Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.
