Medicine Safety For Children
This eLearning program provides information to Child Welfare professionals on the dangers of children’s exposure to harmful medications and ways to safely secure medications. During this training, staff learn the proper use of medication lock boxes and storage bags and how to use a strengths-based approach to discuss the importance of safeguarding medication with families.
Who Should Attend?
Direct service staff and supervisors working in Child Welfare.
Course Benefits
Learners will:
- Understand the dangers of child exposure to harmful medications.
- Receive information on how to safely secure medications.
- Be prepared to talk to families about safe storage, proper disposal and the availability of resources including the Poison Control Center.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Components
Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete:
- An online pre-test.
- A one-hour eLearning course.
- An online post-test.
Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.
Continuing Education Units
The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0402. This course is 1 contact hours/.1 CEUs.
