This learning program prepares learners to apply the principles and techniques of solution-focused casework practice within the Collaborative, Assessment, Response and Support (CARES)/ Family Assessment Response (FAR) casework context.
Learners engage in family-led activities aimed at strengthening their ability to partner with families in the solution-building process, including finding resources that support the family’s overall well-being and targeted child welfare outcomes. Additionally, learners explore the Tools of Interest paradigm, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and the technique of mapping family needs. Before attending this virtual, instructor-led training, learners must complete all course prerequisites listed below and an online pre-test.

Division of Child Protection (DCP) staff including Child Protective Specialists, managers, supervisors and deputy directors.

Course Prerequisites
Prior to attending this course, learners are required to have completed:
- Family Assessment Response CBT (Computer-Based Training).
- All components of the CARES/FAR: Process and Practice learning Program.
Course Components
Once enrolled in the course, learners will complete:
- An online pre-test.
- A full-day, virtual, instructor-led training.
- An online post-test.
Completion of all components is necessary to receive a Certificate of Completion.
